ASI offers a wealth of educational resources and networking opportunities for indexers, including a professional newsleter, a multitude of publications, an annual conference, and member directories. ASI has an extensive web site, rich in resources for new and experienced indexers. Look there for current membership information and a membership application. There are many local ASI Chapters, offering meetings, workshops, newsletters, web sites, and other resources. The Massachusetts Society of Indexers, a chapter of the American Society of Indexers maintains a web site containing useful summaries of past workshops and announcements of future meetings and conferences. |

practice by providing a forum for aspiring and professional indexers to
share information and ideas relating to all aspects of indexing and the
business of indexing.

Online services (America Online, Compuserve, and Prodigy) also offer indexing discussions, but INDEX-L is currently a more active forum for indexers. |

The National Writers Union (NWU) is the trade union for freelance writers of all genres.
